STEM Career: Seismologist
A field of geophysics, seismology is the study of earthquakes and related phenomenon, such as tsunamis. Seismologists measure the intensity of vibrations of Earth and the consequences of those occurrences. Not only do they learn about what has happened, but they also use the data they collect to better understand the potential for new occurrences and ways to mitigate potential damage.
Tools of the Trade
Seismographs, theodolites, global positioning systems
Education Required
A bachelor’s in geophysics, geology, or related field; advanced degrees sometimes required
